torna is a project space for contemporary art and a bookshop for artists' publications, founded and run by Merve Kaptan since 2011. It is currently concentrating on online and off-site projects and collaborations and was previously on location in Istanbul.

Starting in the summer of 2023 will live in two locations: an old village house in Iznik, Bursa and a summer house in Şile, Istanbul, Turkey, where torna will be hosting a new artist residency and launching a new project torna small. You can find out more about it HERE

torna has always been very interested in spaces, be it a room, a house or a page. The projects that happen at torna rely on the limitations of these spaces. We are usually not interested in the white-cube-gallery-space methods.

We encourage the possibilities of art thinking, art production and sharing in collaborative yet independent ways of working. torna is especially interested in artists who use writing and printed matter as part of their practice.
